Hi, I’m Walter Ledger — and I write about technology for people who didn’t grow up with it, but aren’t about to be left behind by it.
I started Over50TechTips because I kept having the same conversation. A friend would mention cryptocurrency, or AI, or some new app everyone was apparently using — and the person I was talking to would nod along, quietly baffled, not wanting to admit they had no idea what any of it meant.
I’ve been that person. And honestly, it’s not because anyone was being dim. It’s because most tech writing is aimed at people who already know the basics. If you don’t, you’re expected to keep up or drop out.
That never sat right with me.
What I cover
The site covers the technology that’s actually changing everyday life right now — artificial intelligence, cryptocurrency, smartphones, smart speakers, and staying safe online. Not every shiny new thing, just the stuff that’s worth understanding.
I try to explain it the way I’d explain it to a friend over a cup of tea. No jargon, no assumptions, no breathless hype about how everything is going to change the world by Thursday.
The books
If you want to go deeper on two particular topics, I’ve written a couple of guides:
Bitcoin & Beyond covers cryptocurrency from the ground up — what it actually is, how it works, and how to approach it sensibly without falling for the nonsense that surrounds it.
The Robot Won’t Bite does the same for artificial intelligence — cutting through the Hollywood drama and the Silicon Valley hype to explain what AI tools actually do, and why your life experience is more of an advantage than you’d think.
Both are written for people who want straight answers, not a lecture.
A quick note on independence
I don’t have financial relationships with any of the companies, platforms, or products I write about. No affiliate deals, no sponsored recommendations, no one paying me to say their app is brilliant. Just my honest take, for what it’s worth.
Technology explained plainly — by someone who remembers when “the cloud” just meant rain.
